Biography
Eugénie Rebetez (*1984) grew up in the French-speaking Swiss countryside. She has been working as a freelance dancer and choreographer for more than fifteen years. Her work has been presented throughout Switzerland and in Europe at many renowned venues and festivals. She created three solo shows: Gina (2010), Encore (2013) and Bienvenue (2017) as well as several performances for art galleries and museums. 2019-2021 she was Artist in Residence at La Grange de Dorigny, the University of Lausanne’s theatre, using this opportunity to explore new artistic territories. With a group of about thirty dancers and musicians from Jura, her native region, she choreographed Le défilé droit direct du Jura (2019), a parade that was presented as part of the mega-event La Fête des Vignerons in Vevey, Switzerland. She also created Nous trois (2019), a piece for three performers that investigates the intensity and complexity of family relationships. Her first Young Audience project, Ha ha ha (2021) was created for dancer and performer Tarek Halaby. Her newest piece for six artists is called Rendez-vous (2022) and is an intimate cabaret that draws its power from gentleness. Eugénie Rebetez lives in Zurich.
"Eugénie Rebetez' body is a theatre. It has its moods, its asides, its outbursts. It is tempted a hundred times to be different, but takes pride in returning to itself: voluptuous, overflowing, untamed." Le Temps
